Classes held at Ffynnonwen enable people, from beginners to more advanced and confident artists, to develop their skills in an atmosphere condusive to learning.  There are many art-forms to learn, including:

  • Drawing with pens and pencils and charcoal
  • Painting with oils, acrylics, gouache, watercolour
  • Pastel painting
  • Basic sculpting
  • Drawing and painting from life (including life model)

What I really encourage a developing artist to do is to be able to observe proficiently so that s/he may then develop at his or her own rate and in his or her own style.  I also encourage enjoyment of this activity.

Students are encouraged to 'take risks'.  For instance, many people are dumbfounded when they look at a blank canvas.  I encourage students to paint on large canvasses as soon as possible so that they quickly get a real feel for the impact of the finished work. 
Students are assisted with mixing colours, and information is provided about the best use of paints and brushes, and the best purchases to make for their intended outcome.  
Residential, weekend courses in painting, life-drawing and life-painting, and other media are available from time to time.  Individual tuition, or tuition for small groups, can also be made available.  Please contact me for dates, or see the dates page. 

NEW!!  Life classes will now be held regularly at Ffynnonwen.  Art classes now held on Wednesdays between 2-4pm and Thursdays between 2-4pm....(cost £60 for 10 weeks on either day)...please contact for more details....
